As technology matures, machine vision suppliers need to provide systems that do
more than simply detect and reject defective parts. Pressco Technology Inc. developed
the INTELLISPEC Machine Vision System with
this important distinction in mind. The product is a culmination of nearly two decades of
experience in supplying high speed, on-line vision inspection equipment to the global food
and beverage container industry.
However, technology advancements alone miss the mark unless they provide a
benefit to the customer. Recognizing this simple yet significant concept, Pressco has
incorporated features into the INTELLISPEC
product designed to help customers solve process problems and reduce costs.
Indicator Values: the INTELLISPEC
system can graphically display important process information. Several types of graphs are
available, such as Presscos patented correlation technology, where defects
are related to machine part components (cavity, transfer arms, spindles, liner
guns, pockets, etc.).
This feature significantly reduces troubleshooting time by clearly identifying
which component is contributing to defective parts.
The system can also be configured to display critical dimensional information.
For example, by monitoring gate offset distance, customers can correct process variations
before defective containers are produced. The system also provides statistical
information, such as mean, standard deviation, CPK and PCI data for each dimension.
Reduced Spoilage: the percentage of parts rejected by existing vision
inspection systems can be as high as 1% of the product manufactured, with false rejects
accounting for as many as 25% of all parts rejected. Reducing the number of false rejects
has obvious financial benefits, and Presscos patented Chromapulse illumination
technology enables the INTELLISPEC system
to highlight and detect defects while drastically reducing the number of false rejects.
INTELLISPECs advanced
algorithms also contribute to a reduction in false rejects because they are able to
distinguish between one small defect (which can be allowed to pass) and several small
defects (which can be rejected).
