Pressco Inc. was founded in 1966 as an engineering oriented full service distributor of metal stamping and metal forming machine tool systems and components by Dean M. Cochran in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1982 an Automation Group was formed in Cleveland, Ohio by his son, Don W. Cochran, current President and CEO of Pressco Technology. The original business plan of the Automation Group was to supply turn-key robotic and material handling automation cells for a variety of high production industrial applications. Through its successful robotic systems work, Pressco became intimately familiar with machine vision technology and began integrating complete systems.

In 1983, Pressco realized several opportunities for on-line inspection of discreet components in the can-making and closure industries. Inspection speeds of 500 parts per minute were initially required which, at the time, was considered "pushing the edge" of technology. Today Pressco systems perform complex, multiple-camera inspections well in excess of 3000 parts per minute. During the 1983 to 1987 time period, Pressco continued to function as a vision system integrator while starting to manufacture more and more of its own componentry to meet the stringent requirements of its integrated systems.

In 1987, Pressco introduced the first of its INTERROGATOR™ series of high-speed video inspection systems which were fully manufactured by the Company. The success of the INTERROGATOR family of products allowed the Company to sustain excellent growth rates. To support the Company's growth, management decided to further focus the Company's resources on machine vision and other sensing technologies. To that end, a business decision was made in the first half of 1988 to no longer pursue any of the many available robot system opportunities. In 1990 it further focused the Company by selling the metal stamping equipment distribution business and moving corporate headquarters to the Cleveland, Ohio area. In late 1990, the Company moved to its current headquarters and manufacturing location in Solon, Ohio, nearly tripling its total space to about 40,000 square feet. Also in 1990, the Company renamed the Automation Group to Pressco Technology Inc. to more accurately reflect the Company's business focus.

During the 1990s, Pressco Technology continued its growth and established itself as a leading manufacturer of on-line, high-speed video inspection equipment to the container and packaging industries. The Company's customer list includes an impressive percentage of the corporations manufacturing food or beverage containers world wide. Pressco manufactures CE certified products, and, in 1992, received the governor’s "E" Award for Excellence in Export for Small Manufacturers. In 1994, Pressco again outgrew its facility and expanded to 65,000 square feet which included a new 20,000 square foot new product development facility.

In 1996, Pressco acquired the assets of Intelligent Inspection Systems ("IIS"), a Florida-based high-speed image processing firm with approximately $3.5 million in annual sales. IIS had developed some complementary markets for real-time inspection which fit well with Pressco’s traditional markets. This acquisition provided the Company with leadership positions in additional market niches which will continue to provide breadth and growth. The majority of the IIS operations were moved to Cleveland in April, 1997.

In October, 1997, Pressco acquired the machine vision operations of LumenX, an Ohio-based company which manufactures machine vision systems primarily for the container industry. LumenX was previously owned by Alltrista Corporation, a publicly-held company which was spun off from Ball Corporation in 1993. LumenX had approximately $6 million in annual sales, about 40% of which was supplied to the glass container inspection market. The acquisition provided Pressco with synergies, intellectual properties, and strong human talent which have helped to solidify and strengthen Pressco overall and allow it to better serve the global food, beverage, and container markets.

In November 1999, Pressco released its newest product, the INTELLISPEC™ and has subsequently developed new software and inspection modules to provide a full range of inspection capabilities for its existing customers and applications outside of its traditional customer base. The company is continually releasing new complementary inspection capabilities.

Today, the company is an internationally recognized manufacturer of high-speed on-line sensing and process analysis products. Pressco has over 4,200 complete turnkey systems operating on-line at high speeds in 51 countries around the globe, with typically 60% of its production being exported internationally. Pressco has become adept at supplying and servicing its customers world wide to the demanding and exacting standards of continuous high production needs.
